Growing Up

Bringing old and new together, the past and the present. So often it is easy to forget how time can change the appearance of the things around us. What happens if we bring the past into the present? The places that we go everyday do not look the same as they did a few years ago let alone a decade or more. It is so easy to forget what our surroundings looked like once they have been replaced with something new. Growing up in a small town like Masterton it goes through lots of changes gradually over the years, it is where I grew up and it holds a lot of history for me as well as my family. This series of photographs was inspired by some of the stories that my step father has told me growing up. The places are still there but they have certainly changed from when he was growing up in Masterton. These photographs have a grainy/dreamy look to them, that has come from scanning the historical photos but it also references the aspect that these photos were created from merging memories that often become fuzzy over time.
